Subscription Licensing Helps State and Local Governments Lower Host Access Costs
Zephyr Can Cut Host Access Costs Up To 75%
Cut Terminal Emulation Costs: Free Trial Download of PASSPORT
As the budgets of U.S. state and local governments come under
increased strain, many are actively searching for ways to lower IT
costs, including the price paid for terminal emulation software to reach
critical host applications.
Across the country, Zephyr’s subscription licensing program (SLP), has
helped state agencies and local governments save thousands of dollars
when it came time to upgrade older terminal emulation and existing
maintenance plans. As such, our customer base now includes
users from state and local governments of California, Colorado,
Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota,
Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon,
Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
Over the past three years, Zephyr has helped a record number of
organizations lower terminal emulation costs via our Subscription Licensing
Program (SLP).
If your organization uses terminal emulation products from Attachmate,
IBM, NetManage or WRQ, Zephyr can potentially cut your terminal emulation
costs by 75%. This is especially true if you're not under a maintenance
contract and seek to upgrade your emulator. Even if you have an
existing maintenance agreement, in most cases Zephyr can cut your
terminal emulation costs in half.
Upgrading to the latest version of Windows, as well as maintaining the
latest releases of
Internet and email security programs, are frequent
factors causing the
need to update client applications, including terminal
emulation. If your
organization finds itself in the position where you need
to upgrade your
emulator and the cost appears prohibitively expensive,
compare
our pricing.
Another trend we see: companies migrating to web-based terminal
emulation. In 2004, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® licenses exceeded
PASSPORT PC TO HOST® licenses for the first time. The ability to
deploy and manage host access from a centralized web server and the option of launching host sessions from an organizational portal, are the driving forces behind this market transition. Should you want to replace your traditional desktop emulator, PASSPORT can save you money and help migrate you to a web-based environment.

PASSPORT Terminal Emulation Deployment
There are actually two versions of the PASSPORT terminal emulation software. Each product uses a different method of deployment.
PASSPORT PC TO HOST® is desktop-based terminal emulation software. This product is similar to other desktop Windows programs. PASSPORT is installed with a Windows setup program. It can also be deployed using SMS, MSI, Citrix or Microsoft Terminal Server.
PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® is web-based terminal emulation software that is deployed from a web server. The terminal emulation software is installed on a web server and provides an administrator program for centralized configuration and administration. All software and configuration files reside on the web server. When the terminal emulation software is run, an ActiveX applet is downloaded from the web server to the client desktop and run inside Internet Explorer. The ActiveX 3270 terminal emulator running inside Internet Explorer makes a direct VT/100, TN3270, 5250, SCO ANSI or FTP connection to the host system.
