PASSPORT UNIX Emulator Rings Up Real Savings for Clients of High Touch Rent-to-Own Systems
Fast pass-through printing of Zephyr’s PASSPORT SCO ANSI emulator for Windows yields productivity gains for rent-to-own customers using High Touch PRO/Store
Unix Emulator for Windows: Free Trial
High Touch, Inc., a specialist in POS (point-of-sale) application systems, including the PRO/Store rent-to-own services and solutions, and Zephyr Development Corporation, a leading provider of secure, IP-based host access software for Microsoft Windows, are pleased to announce the productivity gains associated with the use of the Zephyr PASSPORT Unix emulator for Windows and the High Touch PRO/Store system.
PRO/Store is a core product of the POS (point-of-sale) family of solutions written and maintained by the more than 100 employees of High Touch, Inc. The PRO/Store product line is used in thousands of stores in North America, Guam and Puerto Rico and simplifies the daily functions of receiving and renting inventory, taking payments, generating reports, as well as managing customers and rental agreements.
With its former terminal emulator, High Touch customers consistently experienced delays in printing, a key function required by users of the PRO/Store system. However, using the pass-through printing found in the SCO ANSI terminal emulation of PASSPORT PC to Host, delays are non-existent. SSH security is also provided with PASSPORT. The productivity gains associated with the use of the PASSPORT Unix emulator for Windows led one High Touch client to install and use the Zephyr software with 2,700 High Touch POS systems.

About PASSPORT Unix Emulation Support
PASSPORT supports the telnet host access features defined in the IETF Telnet specifications, DEC VT52, DEC VT100, VT220 and VT420 Programmer's Reference manuals. Telnet terminal emulation uses the TCP/IP Internet protocol for communication between a telnet client and a telnet server. PASSPORT is compatible with all DEC and UNIX® hosts that adhere to these specifications. Both 7-bit and 8-bit VT emulation are supported.
PASSPORT provides a method to specify the text string used for the Telnet device type. PASSPORT uses the standard telnet device types "VT52", "VT100", "VT220" and "VT420". However, some VT hosts may require a non-standard telnet device type such as "DEC-VT220". Auto-reconnect is a configurable option that can automatically re-establish the emulator session after a telnet logoff is performed. Hot back up for connection to alternate IP host names is also provided.
