Using BEA WebLogic to Deploy the PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® Terminal Emulator
3270, 5250, VT100/VT220/VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 Web Based Terminal
Emulator
Zephyr's PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® software, a browser-based
terminal emulator
that can be installed and deployed from a web server, can be
used with the popular BEA WebLogic Application
Server. PASSPORT provides 3270, 5250, VT100/VT220/VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 host access to IBM zSeries (S/390), IBM iSeries
(AS/400) and UNIX® host systems,as well as FTP file transfer.
PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® Server Component
The PASSPORT Server component provides centralized configuration
and administration of all end user host sessions. All software and
configuration files reside on the web server. When a host session
is started, an ActiveX applet is downloaded from the web server
to the client desktop and runs inside Internet Explorer, making a direct
connection to the host system.
PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® can be deployed from a Microsoft Windows 2003, 2000 or NT Server with IIS (Internet Information Server), an IBM OS/390 or zOS system running UNIX® System Services and WebSphere Application Server, an Apache Tomcat Web Server, and any server running BEA's WebLogic Application Server.
The PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® administration program is basically a
web site that interfaces with a java servlet application. PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® can be deployed to
any web application server that can display static web pages and
also run java servlets. This includes the BEA WebLogic Server. The BEA WebLogic Server includes a high-performance
web server for hosting static content and dynamic web applications.
Web applications are a collection of HTML pages, java servlet pages,
servlets, java classes, applets, images, multimedia files and other
file types. The WebLogic Server also offers J2EE compliant services,
web services, enterprise messaging and other services.
BEA WebLogic Server
BEA WebLogic Server is available on all of the leading mainframe, UNIX®, Windows and Linux operating systems including IBM zSeries (S/390) and IBM iSeries (AS/400).

Deploying PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® from WebLogic Server
Deploying PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® from the BEA Systems WebLogic
Server is quite simple. There basically three steps.
- The PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® administration and deployment web site must be transferred to the BEA WebLogic directory where HTML
pages are deployed.
- The PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® java servlet files must be transferred
to the BEA WebLogic directory where java servlets are deployed
- The BEA WebLogic and PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® configuration files
must be edited. After this, the PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® Administrator
program can then be accessed through Internet Explorer to configure
host sessions for deployment. End-Users can then access a web site link to start host sessions.
